Today I received an e-mail update from Haiti. Please check it out below. I will let it speak for itself.
My continued prayer and support for the Pastor Caleb and the people of Haiti.
Grace and Peace.
Hi All;
Just a brief update as to what is happening in Haiti now. Caleb got home yesterday from another trip to Gonaives to check on progress and deliver more supplies (including a new autoclave to the hospital there). The medical director was so excited, he said, “we can stop functioning like a war zone now and sterilize our instruments!”
Caleb told me the actual conditions in Gonaives are now worse because the clean up has made it apparent the tons of mud and debris to be moved. See below
On the good news front, thousands of displaced people in the towns of Cabarette and Gonaives are now finding tents to live in through the generous gifts sent down. See below how folks have been living the past month, and then after with the tents:
Caleb, this Wednesday, seeing how some folks are still living one month after the storms:
Below, a tent village, note the names written on some of them:
One little one is still waiting:
Good news again, Missionary Flights just flew in hundreds of more tents to our airstrip in Pignon to be delivered today (October 10, 2008). (see below their arrival yesterday in Pignon and our enthusiastic helpers)
Several hundred 8 person tents in the red bags below, Caleb told me he’s seeing up to 20 people sleeping in each one in the tent villages.
Please continue to pray for the outreaches going on. In the midst of the chaos and suffering, we are encouraged to see bits of progress being made. Most importantly, we want the people in need to know there are people and especially a God who cares about them.
We could not be doing this without all of you! Final pic, Rotoract volunteers (Rotary Int’l) in Port au Prince, bagging food and supplies for distribution this past week: We’re all in this together!
Thanks and we’ll be sending more updates soon!
Blessings,
Caleb and Debbie Lucien
